Spring Clean your Car

The long winter is finally over with the snow starting to melt outside. The flowers are starting to make their cheerful hello from a long, deep sleep and the birds starting to get much cheerier and chirpier. It’s the time for a fresh start and perhaps a road trip. It’s also the best time to clean up your house and your yard. But, why not extend your cleanup to your car? Not only would you extend the service life of your car, but save yourself time, money, and stress from expensive repair and replacement.
Do-it-yourself cleanup
Owning a vehicle doesn’t merely mean sitting behind the wheel and driving it around town. If you want to improve and lengthen the performance of your car, extend proper maintenance to it. But you don’t need to just rely on your mechanic to do the maintenance job for you. Here are simple things you can do yourself:
De-clutter your car. Now, that’s not something that would require a lot of energy to do. Simply take everything that doesn’t belong inside your car out of it. Vacuum the carpet and wipe the headlights to remove dirt. Also, wash and wax your car to remove the grime brought by your winter driving. Check all tires, including the spare tire. If there are uneven wearing, vibrations and pulling, it could indicate that there is a problem with the tires or the suspension system. This would require replacement right away. Replace any worn parts in your car, such as the wiper blades, mirrors, and lights. Flush and refill the coolant in the cooling system to ensure that your car don’t overheat on the road.
Car maintenance service to leave to your mechanic
It’s critical that you follow the recommended service schedule outlined in your owner’s manual. Have a appointment with your mechanic to ensure that you get the most out of your vehicle’s performance and service life.
Have your mechanic check the hoses and belts in your car. Worn items should be replacement at once. If you start experiencing hard starts and rough idling, tell it to your mechanic. The spark plugs or ignition wires may be needing replacement already. Don’t ignore the braking system. Routine maintenance can eliminate costly repairs of the brakes in the long run. So, inform your mechanic to check it as well. If the air conditioning system is defective, have it inspected. Most likely, the condenser may be malfunctioning causing the reduced air flow inside your car. If this is the case, secure an AC condenser replacement at once. Have your mechanic check the fan blades and cooling fans as well. They may be nearing failure as well.
Remember that spring may be the best time to start fresh and new, but if you are taking your car to that fresh start, have it spring-ready in time. Don’t risk being stranded on the road and getting less than what your car is really designed for. Routine maintenance will help a lot in improving your car’s performance for years to come.

Ethanol Fuel Injection – How To Make Your Car Run On Ethanol

]]>
When you make the choice to switch over to ethanol for your car, there are plenty of changes that have to go along with it. Your current vehicle is set up to use gasoline from the point of consumption to when the last drop is used. Your car has to be converted over using an ethanol fuel injection kit.
Ethanol fuel injection kits can be purchased from reputable companies across the United States and internationally. The reason for getting the fuel injection system is simple — to make your car work better, more efficiently and for it to last longer. There are different ways to look at the fuel injection system to make sure it will run optimally with ethanol.
The ethanol fuel injection kits aren’t going to come with every tiny piece you will need. These are bare-bone kits because every car is slightly different. You will need different size hoses and clamps that you have to purchase separately. Make sure the hoses are of ethanol quality because you don’t want to cause any leaks or tears in the hoses.
The next step is finding a fuel pump that is going to be most efficient with ethanol. Most pumps will use an ethanol-gasoline mix, but there are fuel pumps out there that move the ethanol better. To get the maximum performance out of the ethanol fuel injection, you need the right fuel pump. You will also have to check the carburetor to see if it can handle ethanol. Some carburetors cannot handle ethanol so you will either need to replace it or modify it with one that can pass ethanol. However, on newer cars this shouldn’t be much of a problem.
Replace all filters as well and often in the beginning. You will need to get out all the impurities from gasoline. After you finish converting your car for ethanol fuel injection you want to keep a close eye on your spark plugs. Not all will have a problem, but there is the potential for misfires. If that’s the case, get spark plugs that are for 100-percent ethanol.
If you don’t have much experience with cars, you might want to consider taking the car to a mechanic or someone who specializes in alternative fuels. Knowing your way under the hood of a car is going to be very important. So, if you don’t know the difference between a valve clamp and a spark plug, you are going to be in some serious trouble.

Effective Methods To Dispense Less Income At Filling Up Your Car

Car maintenance can be expensive, and the rising cost of gasoline in the United States can really drain, so to speak, the funds available for car maintenance and related costs. Contributing to poor fuel economy are missing or loose gas caps, worn spark plugs, under inflated tires, and dirty air filters and this is according to Rich White, the executive director of the Car Care Council. Even as the prices continue to climb, here are tips you can follow in order to save money on gasoline.
Aggressive driving is not a good idea. Gas mileage can be lowered up to 33% on the highway and 5% on city streets because of this, which results to 7 to 49 cents per gallon. Taking care of your tires is essential. This is a smart tip because it can cost you a mile for each gallon if you drive with an under inflated tire which is also like driving with the parking break on. Worn spark plugs are things you need to watch out for. Chemical, heat, and electrical erosion is created because vehicles have 4, 6, or 8 spark plugs that fire 3 million times on every thousand miles. Regularly replace your spark plug for gas conservation and proper care maintenance.
Your dirty air filter should also be changed. Cutting off the air and resulting in more gas than necessary to burn are air filters clogged with dirt, bugs, or dust. Not only does this wastes gas, but the engine also loses power. Watch those gas caps. Each year, about 147 million gallons of gas vaporize because according to the CCC, about 17% of vehicles have gas caps that are missing, loose, or damaged. Idling excessively is a bad idea. You only need one or two minutes to warm up your vehicle and idling would get you zero miles to the gallon.
Watch that speed. As your car’s speed increases, gas mileage decreases, and each mph over sixty results in an additional ten cents per gallon cost. Try losing some weight. You can reduce your MPG by up to 2% based on the percentage of extra weight relative to the weight of the vehicle by removing unnecessary items from your vehicle in which you can reduce the weight by 100 pounds.
To get the most out of your car, proper maintenance is the best way and you also need to make sure that it remains fuel efficient. The health of your car depends on the regular visits to the auto mechanic so don’t skip them.

GMC Savana at a Used Car Dealership

A pre-owned GMC Savana provides power, performance, safety, durability and convenience the popularity of the used GMC Savana reflects its versatility. It proved to be both a used commercial vehicle and used passenger transport success with room for up to 15 people makes it both durable and reliable, and which forms the basis for the comfortable and luxurious used van conversion.
If you are looking to buy a used Savana it is available with a regular wheelbase or long wheelbase versions and multiple engine options, some of which can use E85 ethanol a biofuel which is becoming increasingly popular with many people wanting to buy a fuel efficient used vehicle.
With substantial renovations that include enhanced security features, a used Savana provides additional comfort and style 17-inch wheels and mostly equipped with V-8 engine of 5.3L and a gross vehicle weight (GVWR) to 7,300 pounds. A more powerful alternator of 125 amperes is now standard on the half-ton models with 5.3L engine, and an engine oil cooler comes standard on models with V-6 engine of 4.3L of the used Savana.
The promise of lasting used vehicle performance supports the smooth running of these engines. The engine family was validated under extreme conditions, where the 6 liter engine went through tests equivalent to 200,000 miles (150,000 miles on the other engines of the family). The engines also have components, which prolong the service life and can increase the service intervals and reduce maintenance costs. These components include spark plugs with tips made of iridium, engine coolant and drive belt.
These strict tests highlighted the long life cycle of these reliable engines when they were run at peak power, the equivalent to towing a trailer uphill for 600 hours non stop.
The V-8 engines of the Gen IV have been designed to meet the most stringent emission standards. In fact, compared with engines for used trucks from 10 years ago, the Gen IV engine family is burning approximately 90 percent cleaner. The muffler manifolds are made of cast iron, along with direct coupling catalytic converters help to reduce emissions during cold starts, which are the main source of used vehicle emissions.
Among the additional features you will find if you decide to purchase a used GMC Savana are.
StabiliTrak: standard on all models of the used Savana passenger van
Control System for Tire Pressures which is standard on all models of cargo and passengers used Savanas
Convex mirrors that offer a wider field of vision are also standard on all models of cargo and passenger used Savanas
A system anti-lock disc brakes on all four wheels with Hydroboost standard on all used models of the Savana
front air bags for driver and front passenger, standard on all models of a pre-owned Savana
The stable handling and precise steering, offer a high quality driving experience that is the hallmark of this used vehicle. The chassis has fully framed sections that provide a superior strength and rigidity, while the front chassis rails, are used for the vehicle to be better prepared for collisions. In addition, the crosspieces of the tubular chassis give increased torsional rigidity an unseen but highly important safety feature of a used van.

Pros And Cons Of Diesels – If You Are Considering Buying A Diesel-powered Car
Posted: Aug 15, 2009 |Comments: 0
]]>
If you’re considering buying a diesel-powered vehicle, take a good look at this article before you decide.
To accurately compare diesel vehicles with traditional gasoline-powered vehicles, you need to consider a number of pros and cons.
PRO: Diesels get great mileage.
CON: So do vehicles with fuel-efficient gasoline-powered engines, which often cost a couple of thousand dollars less than diesels. You can buy a lot of gas for a couple of thousand dollars! Diesel fuel is not available at many service stations, and although it used to be cheaper than gasoline, it now often costs as much – or more – than gasoline, and it may become even more expensive, depending on availability and demand.
PRO: Diesel fuel contains more usable energy than gasoline.
CON: Although diesel fuel is considered more efficient because it converts heat into energy rather than sending the heat out the tailpipe as gas-powered vehicles do, it doesn’t result in flashy “high performance.” A gasoline-powered vehicle is like a racehorse – high-strung, fiery, and fast -whereas a diesel vehicle is more like a workhorse – slow, strong, and (hopefully) enduring.
PRO: Diesels have no spark plugs or distributors. Therefore, they never need a tuneup.
CON: Diesels still need regular maintenance to keep them running. You have to change the oil and the air, oil, and fuel filters, and you may need to bleed excess water out of the system. If you neglect the maintenance, and the fuel injection system breaks down, you’ll probably have to pay a diesel mechanic big bucks to get things unsnaggled.
PRO: Diesels are built more ruggedly to withstand the rigors of higher compression. Consequently, they usually go much longer before they require major repairs than conventional vehicles do. (Mercedes-Benz holds the
longevity record with several vehicles clocking more than 900,000 miles on their original engines!)
CON: Do you really want to hang on to the same vehicle for 900,000 miles?
Also, there have been cases where automakers have simply plunked diesel engines into vehicles that were originally designed to be gasoline-powered. Because these vehicles weren’t constructed to stand up to the stresses imposed by the high compression that diesel engines require, they suffered failures that contributed to their swift decline in popularity.
PRO: Turbocharged diesels have better fuel efficiency and are much more powerful and responsive than traditional diesel vehicles.
CON: Turbocharging will probably get cheaper and even more efficient as time goes on, but you can buy a turbocharged, gasoline-powered vehicle and have the advantages of both.
PRO: Diesels have become easier to start in cold weather.
CON: Although they’re better than they used to be, diesel engines are still more difficult to start on cold days than gasoline engines are.
PRO: Diesels put out much less carbon monoxide than ordinary vehicles do, which means less air pollution.
CON: This is a major misconception. Diesels put out 30 to 90 percent more nitrogen oxides and carbon particles (soot), and recent studies show that diesel emissions can cause cancer. As a result, recent legislation is aimed at getting diesel-powered vehicles off the road completely unless they can find a way to meet increasingly stringent EPA standards.
Ultimately, you’re going to have to check out what’s available and make up your own mind. However, based on the current situation, unless you do a lot of driving in parts of the world where gasoline is scarce and diesel fuel is plentiful, I’d stick to gasoline or consider one of the alternatively powered vehicles. If you do decide to buy a diesel vehicle, be sure to choose one that allows you to do most of the maintenance yourself, without requiring a great deal of time, money, or skill. Check the owner’s manual and talk to diesel mechanics to be sure that the oil is easy to change, because you’re going to have to change it quite often.

While this is done are wider intervals with modern cars, it sill makes good sense to inspect your car’s engine, tires and underbody condition at closer intervals. You may need to do a tune-up earlier than recommended.

Do Not Forget About Car Safety
It is an all-too-common sight: a person pulls up to a dealership in a beat-up old jalopy, walks into the showroom, and immediately starts asking the salesperson about safety features on the intended new car. Then, pending the purchase, the person will continue to drive around in a car that…

(ARA)- Drivers, why not make every day Earth Day?
According to officials with the non-profit National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE), motorists can help the environment and their own finances by changing a few habits. This may come as surprise to those who think they must wait for hybrid or alternate-fueled vehicles to become popular.
ASE recommends regular vehicle maintenance and better driving habits as two can’t-fail action plans. Here are a few specific, easy-to-implement tips from ASE.
– Keep the engine running at peak performance — a misfiring spark plug can reduce fuel efficiency as much as 30 percent. Replace filters and fluids as recommended in your owner’s manual. A well tuned engine pollutes less and uses less gasoline than a neglected vehicle. Moreover, engine performance problems only get worse if neglected.
– If you do your own repairs, be a good citizen. Dispose of engine fluids and batteries properly. A single quart of used motor oil can pollute thousands of gallons of water. Anti-freeze poured on the ground can poison wildlife and household pets. Some repair facilities accept used fluids and parts. Or call your local government for more information.
– Keep tires properly inflated and aligned. If your air pressure is just a few pounds low, you force the engine to work harder (read: burn more gasoline) just to move the vehicle. Tires that are misaligned also make your vehicle work harder. Consider, too, that poorly maintained tires wear out faster, which means more discards have to be scraped, recycled or sent to the landfill.
– If you are not much of a do-it-yourselfer, find a good technician. Ask friends for recommendations. Check the reputation of the repair shop with your local consumer group. Check out the technicians’ credentials. ASE-certified auto technicians have passed one or more national exams in specialties such as engine performance and air conditioning.
– Have your vehicle’s air conditioner serviced only by a technician certified to handle and recycle refrigerants. Older air conditioners contain ozone-depleting chemicals, which could be released into the atmosphere through improper service.
– Avoid speeding and sudden accelerations. Both habits guzzle gas and put extra wear and tear on your vehicle’s engine, transmission, steering and suspension system, and other components. Use cruise control and anticipate traffic patterns ahead. As a side benefit, your brakes will last longer.
– When waiting for friends or family, shut off the engine. Consolidate daily errands to eliminate unnecessary driving. And, yes, walk more often.
– Remove excess items from the vehicle’s truck, since less weight means better mileage. Remove that roof-top luggage carrier after vacations to reduce air drag.
If appeals to save the environment are not enough, consider this: A poll of ASE-certified auto technicians indicated that a well-maintained vehicle should last 50 percent longer than a neglected one. Good car care saves you money and helps the environment — a win-win situation.
The National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) was founded in 1972 as a non-profit, independent organization dedicated to improving the quality of automotive service and repair through the voluntary testing and certification of automotive professionals. ASE-certified technicians wear blue and white ASE shoulder insignia and carry credentials listing their exact areas of certification. Their employers often display the ASE sign.

Diesel Fuel Prices To Skyrocket – Water Fuel (HHO) As The Next Best Option
The concept of water being used as fuel is simple. You will be using Hydrogen gas or H2 gas instead of diesel fuel or gasoline. Right now, technology still doesn’t permit us to utilize 100% Hydrogen gas on a car. It is usually mixed with a little bit of diesel, but still it reduces the money you’ll have to pay for diesel fuel. When you use the hybrid of diesel and hydrogen gas in your car, your car runs efficiently and it will get you to where you need to go.

Car Maintenance Services to Schedule With Your Auto Technician: Spring Auto Maintenance Checklist

Don’t risk being stranded or getting less than you should from your car at trade in. A little attention to the basics now will improve its appearance and performance for years to come.
Now scheduling with your service center is easy, thanks to this handy checklist of items for the spring season. Don’t miss the first checklist, with items you can do yourself.
1.First, find a quality service shop. Look for one that services cars equal in value to your own (their parking lot will speak volumes!). Go inside and check out the equipment in the service bays (for example, our RK Chevrolet service center has state-of-the-art, computerized equipment. This facilitates faster diagnosis and repair, getting you back on the road quicker.)
To find out the qualifications of the technicians, scan the walls for trade school diplomas, certificates of advanced course work and training classes.
2.Have your technician check the tightness and condition of belts, clamps, and hoses. (RK Scion technicians recommend that belts and hoses be inspected monthly).
Worn, glazed or frayed belts should be replaced, as should bulging, rotten, or brittle hoses. Clamps should be tightened.
3.Anything that is worn or damaged should be replaced to prevent sudden breakdowns.
4.If your air conditioner system is faulty, have it checked. Cooling inefficiency could be the result of a lack of air flow across the condenser. Have your mechanic make sure the electric cooling fan motor near the condenser is coming on.
In fan blade models, the fan should turn very fast. Also have your mechanic check the Freon level and pressure. Air conditioners on older vehicles often contain ozone-depleting chemicals that could be released into the air if the system isn’t working properly.
5.If your engine is experiencing hard starts, rough idling, or stalling, have it fixed. Often times, the trouble stems from basic things like worn spark plugs, a dirty air filter, or bad ignition wires, but if you’re not mechanically inclined whatsoever, it’s best to go straight to a professional.
(Taking care of little things early will likely improve your gasoline mileage and prevent minor problems from becoming expensive repairs later on.
6.Don’t neglect your transmission. RK Toyota technicians report that routine service can eliminate costly repairs down the road. A manual transmission does not usually experience trouble, except for the clutch, which can be problematic if improperly adjusted or abused.
A common problem with automatics is fluid breakdown from overheating. Fluid and filter changes every 24,000 miles can avoid premature transmission failure but few people heed such advice.

The extended auto warranty is also referred to as the used car warranty or the new car warranty. This is basically a warranty that is offered after the purchase of a vehicle whether new or old. Save Fuel
There are some simple ideas to save fuel. Follow these tips and you will have 10 to 15% savings almost guaranteed.
Slow – It’s boring, but true. Above about 80km / h, driving 10% faster will use between 10 and 20% more fuel, because air resistance is very maior.Pergunte whether the time saved is worth the extra cost.
Close the windows, sunroof and lift the roof rack – reduces air resistance.
Keep the air conditioner off , unless you need in case the weather being hot and humid (but be sure to turn it at least once a month, even in winter, so there is no failure in the compressor).
(Driving in the city, the most economical way to ventilate your car will be opening the windows, but driving at high speed (up ranging from 100 km / h), is really best to keep windows closed and turn the air conditioning).
Throw out the trash – Charging excess weight wastes fuel, so check if you really need to take everything that is in your car.
Anticipate – Instead of accelerating madly and then having to brake heavily in traffic jams, try to anticipate when he left home and moderate your speed so you do not need as much braking and avoid possible accidents. Hard braking energy is playing out!
Keep the inflated tire – Putting the recommended pressure will save fuel and also give a better income for your car. (Goodyear said that if the tires 20% are less inflated, you’ll use up to 10% more fuel!) You may have “low rolling resistance” of tires But the extra cost can not be justified by the fuel you save.
Use higher gears – the engines are more efficient at low speed running high, as much power is wasted just moving the internal engine parts. Look through the gears at 3,000 rpm, this is exactly the ideal regime between power (3,000 RPM).
Do preventive maintenance – not just the engine, but also check tires , Shock absorbers, spark plugs and brakes. If the brakes are worn may cause a greater consumption of fuel due to wear also in the brake pad.
Use the right oil – Use low-viscosity oil, you will notice a small but significant improvement. The 0W30 is better than 10W40, which in turn is better than 20W50. But do not use an oil that is too “thin” for your engine. The ideal is to consult your owner’s manual to avoid future losses.

Benefits of LPG Cars

Don’t you hate how every single summer gas prices seem to rise ridiculously high? Every year this seems to happen and prices continue to go higher and higher. Because we as a people depend so much on domestic and foreign oil we run the risk of paying whatever we have to for gas because we rely so much on our petrol driven vehicles. Because of this issue, people are leaning more and more towards alternative fuel sources to help them get around on a day to day basis. One of these popular fuel sources is that of LPG, or liquefied petroleum gas.
There are a lot of benefits of using LPG Cars as a way to get around. First of all, LPG is made out of hydrocarbinates and are much more environmentally friendly than normal petrol. It emits less toxins out into the atmostphere and also less harmful carbon dioxides. This is great for anyone that is trying to be green. Also, it helps your engine run much more efficiently. This is great news for anyone that has problems with their car before. Because your engine is going to be cleaner and running more smoothly you won’t have to spend as much money on maintenance and you won’t have to fix simple problems like spark plugs and cylinders.
Another big benefit is that LPG costs about 50% of what normal petrol costs. You can really go twice the distance for the same amount of money that you would be paying for normal gas. In the long run the savings are immense. This is an alternative fuel worth looking into if you like saving money and treating your car and the environment better.

Gas Saving Car Care

]]>
Maintaining the looks of your vehicle is only one aspect behind car care – sure we all love to look and feel good in a great looking, clean and tidy vehicle but there are also very practical fuel economies to be gained by looking after your car.
Car care is not about having you part with money on a range of products and service options – it is about keeping dollars in your pocket and maintaining the value of the investment in your vehicle!
Tune Up Your Engine
Tuning an engine can result in an immediate 4% increase in gas mileage or in other words, a 4% saving in cost at the gas pump.
Even better – fix misfiring or faulty spark plugs and you can improve fuel efficiency by a whopping 30% – or in other words, save 30% of the cost at the gas pump and it’s an immediate saving.
Replace Air Filters
Air filters are essential for the performance of your engine and keeping the essential working parts clear and clean.
Replacing air filters at regular intervals (even those the manufacturer says do not need replacing) is a sure -fire method in maintaining engine performance and increasing gas mileage. A clogged air filter can cost you 10% of the cost of the gas you put in so it makes sense to check them every 3 months or 3,000 miles.
There is another aspect in connection with air filters – there are a large number of air filters in a modern vehicle, far more than you may imagine and you should consult your vehicle manual (and the internet as many are in the car but not listed in the manual). Check for air filters controlling the air in the cabin as changing these will improve your passenger enjoyment (though not necessarily the gas mileage).
Check Tire Pressure
Invest in a digital pressure gauge and check your tire pressure every day – the best time to do so is in the morning when the tires are cold after having been left overnight. Make sure you check the pressure in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendations and watch out for the different tire pressures to be used when fully-laden and empty.
Maintaining correct tire pressures can save you over 15% in gas efficiency.
Regular Oil Changes
Ensuring you change the oil at regular intervals and using an “energy conserving” oil will help improve your gas consumption efficiency by up to 2% as well as improving engine performance you will visibly experience when driving. Use the grade of oil recommended by the manufacturer and don’t forget to change the oil filters as well as the oil – usually you should be doing this every 3 months or every 3,000 miles but follow the vehicle maintenance manual instructions.
Following the manufacturer’s recommendations and instructions is vital to keep your engine and vehicle performing efficiently and at its best throughout your time of ownership – keep all the receipts you expend on the vehicle and maintain them in a file all ready for when you come to sell the car as this will be a great selling point to help you leverage more money from the deal.
